A transdermal patch or skin patch is a medicated adhesive patch that is placed on the skin to deliver a specific dose of m ed i ca t i o n through the skin and into the b l oods t rea m. Often, this promotes healing to an injured area of the body . . Trans dermal patches are characterized to validate its quality, size, time of onset & duration, adhesive property, thickness, weight of patch and moisture content. Most of the technologies involved in better permeation through skin into an effective Drug Delivery System. Advantages of trans-dermal patches include avoidance of first pass metabolism of drugs, simplified medication regimen improves patient compliance and reduces side effects, inter and intra-patient variability, no interference with gastric and intestinal fluids.
