A REVIEW: LIPOSOMES AS PHARMACEUTICAL CARRIERS

Liposomes, sphere-shaped vesicles consisting of one or more phospholipid bilayers, were first described in the mid -60s. Today, they are a very useful reproduction, reagent, and tool in various scientific disciplines, including mathematics and theoretical physics, biophysics, chemistry, biochemistry, and biology. Since then, liposomes have made their way to the marke t. Among several talented new drug delivery systems, liposomes characterize an advanced technology to deliver active molecules to the site of action, and at present, several formulations are in clinical use. More recently, many new developments have been seen in the area of liposomal drugs from clinically approved products to new experimental applications, with gene delivery and cancer therapy still being the principal areas of interest. For further successful development of this field, promising trend s must be identified and exploited, although with a clear understanding of the limitations of these approaches. Liposome considered as one of the most important life molecule used in the process of carrying substance used in vaccination, gene therapy, drug carrying in vivo and imagining process . Several methods are available to compose liposome and are differ structurally and in size which used nanometer size. Nanoparticles are more efficient in their use inside body and their application than the larg er size molecules. Multifunctional liposome are available now used in imagining and carrying molecule or genes or penetrating cell agent or other substance to the target cells. The use of liposome offer the field using nanoparticles technology in the treatment and other purposes.
