Sustain release dosage form, Xanthan gum, Matrix tablet, Microsphere, gastro-retentive tablets ,

The conventional dosage form contains drawbacks, side effects, and dosing frequency. It is defeated by a sustained-release dosage form made with xanthan gum, a naturally occurring polymer. A medicine can be administered to the human body using a sustained release dosage form at a precise and steady rate, which allows the drug to remain at a continuous level for a longer period of time. Natural polymers are used in the formulation of sustained release dosage forms because they have many benefits over synthetic polymers, including being nontoxic, biodegradable, and biocompatible with other ingredients. Natural polymers are those that arise spontaneously and are present in all living things, including bacteria, plants, and animals. Xanthomonascompestris bacteria uses glucose as its primary carbon source to generate xanthan gum, a polysaccharide that is significant to the commercial sector. Wet granulation, direct compression for matrix tablets, ionic-gelation for microspheres, and non-aqueous granulation for gastro-retentive tablets are the techniques utilized to produce the sustained-release dosage form. This review discusses the numerous sustained-release dosage forms that are made with xanthan gum.
